Ella Hartung is a freelance photographer based in Halle (Saale). Her work explores people, movement and the environments in which they create, perform and work.
Alongside commissioned work, she develops photographic projects with a strong emphasis on concept, atmosphere and an attentive approach to her subjects.
Hartung approaches each project through close collaboration and careful preparation. She develops concepts in dialogue with her subjects and clients, while remaining attentive to what emerges naturally during the photographic process. Her approach combines direction with a sensitive gaze, allowing space for both intention and spontaneity. She seeks to reveal what is distinctive about each person, place and situation.
As a member of professional networks, such as Female Photoclub or Freelens, she values exchange and collaboration within the photographic community. A feminist perspective is an integral part of her practice, shaping her approach to people, representation and the photographic gaze.
Since 2026, she has been co-leading the Female Photoclub’s regional group OST.
